Religion without theology

11/13 Saturday
(from notebook)

On walk this AM: very quiet, slow, holy. Question arose again of what the sense of the sacred is. Response came that the thing to do isn’t question its source so much, but rather be very attentive to the experience itself. What does it feel like in the body, how does it come and go.

A religion without a theology: Sense of sacredness leads to the need for a Response, and yearning to be in the presence. That may be enough.

And what is that Response?
1. Organize life (principles, halacha, etc) in accord with reality
2. Compassion and reverence
3. Cultivate more presence (contemplative practice, etc.)

Still the question of, is this the sense to cultivate – or merely watch and let go? I.e., is it more like compassion (cultivate) or simple, surface happiness (watch and let go).
